National Beach Volley University Championship as a prelude for the EUC

Successful Beach Volley University Spanish Championship

The University of Malaga, in collaboration with the Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall, organised the Beach Volley University Spanish Championship, which was held on the Cala Flores Beach in Cala del Moral between 2th and 4th May 2023. This university championship has been the prelude to the European University Beach Games that will take place in the municipalities of Torrox and Rincón de la Victoria next September.

After Wednesday's group matches in the morning and the double elimination draw in the afternoon, the semi-finals and finals of both categories were held this morning, concluding the competition with the medal ceremony.

The central court was the setting for the medal ceremony, which was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Sports, Emilio Fernández, the Mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, together with other representatives of the municipality and the university community, and a large group of volunteers.

In the women's category it was the University of Murcia (UCAM) that won gold, while the silver went to the University of Valencia. The two bronze medals in this category went to the universities of Alicante and Francisco de Vitoria. In the men's category, UCAM was also the winner, while the University of Seville won the silver medal. Finally, the bronze medals went to the universities of A Coruña and Miguel Hernández. Seventeen universities were represented in the women's competition and 22 in the men's category.

The University of Málaga was represented by Sonia Segura (Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy and player of the Cártama Volleyball Club) and Sofía Bustillo (Faculty of Education Sciences and player of the Pizarra Volleyball Club) in the women's category and by Jaime Paz (School of Computer Engineering) and Sergio Narváez (Faculty of Education Sciences) (both from the Costa del Vóley Club) in the men's category, both pairs being coached by the UMA coach Óscar Martín.

The installation consisted of a central court with bleachers, which facilitated access for the public and five competition courts. In addition, a warm-up court was placed next to them.
